Rebuilding regional communities funding available to strengthen our communities

Applications are now open for the new Rebuilding Regional Communities Program, giving local businesses and community groups a chance to share in $5.7 million. Grants are available for a range of grassroots, community-led initiatives that will help our communities bounce back by strengthening social connections, supporting jobs and creating economic opportunities. Federal Member for Longman Terry Young said the funding would deliver a much-needed boost for local businesses, communities and towns hit hard by the pandemic. “The Nationals and Liberals are continuing to invest in the projects and initiatives that will make our communities more resilient and more vibrant,” Mr Young said. “After being hit with bushfires, drought and flooding in recent years, the COVID-19 pandemic brought with it new challenges for locals and the communities in which they live. “Access to this funding will help local groups restart activities and maintain social support networks in regional towns as they recover from these setbacks. “I look forward to working with local groups to help secure the funding they need to bounce back strongly and deliver for locals as we recover from the pandemic.” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the Nationals and Liberals are continuing to stand behind regional Australia. “The Nationals and Liberals are getting the job done for regional Australians,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. “We have a strong track record of investing in initiatives and projects that create jobs and make our regions stronger, both economically and socially, and through this new funding we’re building on that. “As a regional MP, I know how tough it has been for community groups to raise necessary funds to sustain operations and provide important services across our communities. “Unlike the Labor Party, the Nationals and Liberals believe in regional Australia and we deliver the infrastructure, services and opportunities regional people need and deserve. “Our popular Building Better Regions Fund enables this, and has guided more than $1.38 billion in funding to regional towns and communities to make them stronger and help them prosper. “We know that small grants can have a big impact on regional communities and this $5.7 million in further funding will help drive the recovery of our regions.” The Government is partnering with the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal to deliver the Rebuilding Regional Communities Program. Funding will be available from two streams to support regional initiatives. The Micro Projects stream will provide small grants of up to $10,000 for regional communities with fewer than 50,000 people to help sustain local organisations and their work. The COVID Recovery stream will provide up to $50,000 for larger projects that will enhance the recovery of communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Backing Local Manufacturers to lead our economic recovery

The Coalition is backing more manufacturers in Longman to grow and create new jobs as they help secure our economic recovery, with $280 million in funding on offer.  The matched funding is available through Round 2 of the Integration and Translation Streams of the $1.3 billion Modern Manufacturing Initiative (MMI).  Applications are open for businesses in the six National Manufacturing Priority Areas; Space, Medical Products, Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Processing, Food and Beverage, Recycling and Clean Energy, and Defence.  Former Minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction Angus Taylor said the matched funding will help manufacturers break into new markets and translate great ideas into commercial outcomes.   “Our manufacturing sector is going from strength to strength, with more than a million Australians employed in manufacturing and strong confidence in the future of the sector.”  “We know our manufacturers will lead the charge when it comes to our economic recovery from the pandemic – and that’s why we’re investing in them to help secure our future,” Minister Taylor said.  Federal Member for Longman Terry Young said our Modern Manufacturing Initiative is already investing in phenomenal projects that will support businesses to scale-up, introduce new products to market, strengthen our supply chains and create more local jobs.   “This matched funding will help businesses turn innovative research and ideas into reality, as well as unlocking new opportunities and investment both here at home and for overseas export,” Mr Young said.   “We want to see our local manufacturers grow and prosper and this fund will help them do just that. We know our manufacturers are central to our ongoing economic recovery”. The MMI is the centrepiece of the Government’s $1.5 billion Modern Manufacturing Strategy, designed to position Australia as a globally recognised, high-quality and sustainable manufacturing nation.   For more information and to read the guidelines, visit: https://business.gov.au/news/modern-manufacturing-initiative-round-2

Building Better Regions Round 6 funding available for projects in Longman

The Liberal and Nationals Government is continuing to invest in the future of Longman with a further $250 million in funding available under the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF). Applications for Round 6 of the program are now open, paving the way for new projects that our communities need and deserve to be funded and delivered from next year. Member for Longman Terry Young is calling on local councils and community organisations to start preparing applications for projects to receive a share in $250 million. “The Liberal and Nationals Government is delivering the services and infrastructure our communities deserve,” Mr Young said. “Funding projects in regional towns will ensure communities have the facilities they need for the future, while creating jobs now and driving our economic recovery. “Our Government has a strong track record of delivering projects that are important to regional Australians and I look forward to discussing new projects with local councils and community groups.” The BBRF supports economic and social infrastructure for the long-term benefit of regional communities. Funding the infrastructure and services that communities need for the future will create jobs and help them rebound strongly from the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding under Round 6 takes the Government’s total investment through the BBRF to $1.38 billion. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the Government is focused on ensuring our regions remain strong and grow into the future. “Regional Australians deserve the same services and opportunities that people in metropolitan cities have and the Building Better Regions Fund helps make this happen,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. “That’s why we’ve committed another $250 million for projects and initiatives that will transform communities, create new jobs and drive economic growth across regional Australia. “This will build on the 298 fantastic regional projects that shared in $300 million in funding under the last round of the Building Better Regions Fund. “Our Government is committed to delivering the best outcomes for regional and remote Australia, which is why we are providing local businesses, industries and families with opportunities to get ahead.” Local governments and eligible incorporated not-for-profit organisations can again apply for grants of $5,000 up to $10 million to cover 50 per cent or more of eligible project costs. Round 6 projects will be funded under two streams. The Infrastructure Projects Stream supports the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure. The Community Investments Stream funds community development activities including, but not limited to, new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, leadership and capability building activities. Applications close on Thursday, 10 February 2022.

SME Recovery Loan Scheme extension

The Coalition Government is providing additional support to small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) who continue to deal with the economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis by expanding eligibility for the SME Recovery Loan Scheme. In recognition of the continued economic impacts of COVID-19, the Government will remove requirements for SMEs to have received JobKeeper during the March quarter of 2021 or to have been a flood affected business in order to be eligible under the SME Recovery Loan Scheme. As with the existing scheme, SMEs who are dealing with the economic impacts of the coronavirus with a turnover of less than $250 million will be able to access loans of up to $5 million over a term of up to 10 years. Other key features of the SME Recovery Loan Scheme include: The Government guarantee will be 80 per cent of the loan amount. Lenders are allowed to offer borrowers a repayment holiday of up to 24 months. Loans can be used for a broad range of business purposes, including to support investment. Loans may be used to refinance any pre-existing debt of an eligible borrower, including those from the SME Guarantee Scheme. Loans can be either unsecured or secured (excluding residential property). The expanded Scheme will enable lenders to continue supporting Australian small businesses when they need it most. The SME Recovery Loan Scheme builds on earlier loan schemes introduced during COVID-19, under which around 74,000 loans totalling around $6.2 billion were written. The loans will be available through participating lenders until 31 December 2021. The expansion complements other financial support the Commonwealth is offering to businesses impacted by the current COVID-19 health restrictions. The Coalition Government will continue to support small businesses as they seek to rebuild, adapt and create jobs on the other side of this crisis.
