Achieve from 2020

May 29, 2020 Fatality Free Friday Before you get on the road this weekend Longman, stop and have a think about your road habits this Fatality Free Friday. This year we have seen too many precious Australian lives tragically lost already on our roads. We must act and take road safety seriously, remind drivers of their responsibilities behind the wheel and all levels of governments must ensure that our roads are safe for all users to use. The five main causes of road crashes are speeding, drink or drug driving, seatbelt use, fatigue and distraction or inattention. So before you get in your car and go to work, to see a loved one or go for a drive, please remember to be safe and be aware of other road users. https://youtu.be/kjIY6BkcDPg May 27, 2020 Interview with 101.5FM – Moreton Bays Own Radio Station Thanks to 101.5FM – Moreton Bays Own Radio Station for lending me the microphone this week to announce some fantastic news for the community of #Longman. I also thanked those who have submitted nominations for the 2020 Longman Volunteer Recognition Awards. The high quality of the nominations was impressive and I will announce the successful nominees soon. Take a listen to the podcast here: https://bit.ly/36FnOBm If you need any assistance or support please don’t hesitate to contact my office on 07 5432 3177 or at [email protected]. May 26, 2020 Turning the Sod with KTQ Developments It’s important to ensure that people living with disability in Longman have access to essential support services and accommodation. I grabbed a shovel and turned the sod with KTQ Developments earlier this year for their new disability care accommodation development in Caboolture known as ‘Orion on Rowe.’ Their masterplan is centred around 12 carefully designed Specialist Disability Apartments, and 2 Onsite Overnight Carer accommodation suites. Also included is a state of the art 4 storey office with ground floor café with intent to be run by a Disability Employment and Training Services Provider. (Photo taken prior to COVID-19 regulations.) May 25, 2020 Community Spirit in Longman! Fantastic to see our local Longman aged care providers and churches joining forces to make a real difference to the many families needing a helping hand in the electorate. Ken and Pastor Michael (left and right in the photo) from the Caboolture Living Hope Church of Christ and Rockpool Residential Aged Care Customer Relations Consultant Jimina (middle of the photo) recently delivered 40 care packs to those most in need in the community. These packs were filled with essential items, which was kindly donated by Rockpool Residential Aged Care, and have gone a long way towards helping those doing it tough at the moment. Take a look at Rockpool Morayfield and Caboolture Living Hope Church of Christ’s Facebook pages for more updates about the amazing things they are doing for our community. Stronger Connectivity for Our Community

Stronger Connectivity for our Community Telstra has launched live trials of satellite-to-mobile messaging, a promising new technology that allows compatible phones to send and receive text messages via satellite when outside of traditional mobile coverage. This is a big step forward for people right here in our local community. Whether you’re a farmer working on a remote property, a tradie on a rural job site, or a family heading off on a regional road trip, staying connected matters. For too long, areas across our region have struggled with black spots and limited service. This new technology has the potential to change that. Over 55,000 messages have already been sent during testing Messages can include GPS coordinates and emojis Message delivery times may vary depending on your location, device and satellite availability Please note that this service does not support emergency texts to Triple Zero (000)  While this is still in the testing phase, it’s a strong step towards closing the connectivity gap between the city and the bush. Better communication means safer travel, stronger businesses and more peace of mind for locals and their families. I’ll keep working to ensure our community stays informed. For more info on this, click below:https://www.telstra.com.au/exchange/telstra-satellite-to-mobile-connectivity–our-latest-trials-and-

Deadlift for Harry

Deadlift for Harry Four years ago today, our community lost a bright, kind, and selfless young man, Harrison Payne. Harry had just turned 18 when his life was tragically cut short in a 4WD crash on Woorim Beach. His death was preventable, and that heartbreak has driven his parents, Kylie and Kent, to dedicate their lives to making sure no other family has to experience the same pain. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of meeting with Kylie and Kent several times. Their strength, courage, and love for Harry have inspired me and so many others in our community. Through The Harrison Payne Initiative Inc, they have turned unimaginable grief into meaningful action by raising awareness around road safety, beach driving, suicide prevention, and supporting families affected by similar tragedies. Harry graduated from St Eugene College in 2020 and loved training at World Gym Burpengary. At just 17, he was already deadlifting 220 kilograms. His physical strength was impressive, but it was his strength of character that truly stood out. He was kind, uplifting, and deeply loved by everyone who knew him. To honour Harry’s legacy and raise awareness, the fifth annual Deadlift for Harry event will be held on Saturday 14 June from 7am at World Gym Burpengary. This is more than a deadlift competition. It’s a community event with face painting, a sausage sizzle, jumping castles, an animal farm and more, all in support of a cause that matters deeply.  Please come along, bring your friends and family, and help to continue sharing Harry’s story. Together, we can all carry on his legacy.

My Opinion On The Voice To Parliament

On Saturday the 14th of October all Australians will be asked to vote on the Voice to parliament. Many constituents have contacted me over the past months asking me for details and more information so they can make an informed decision on which way they will vote. I thought I would briefly outline what I have been asked and what I have learned and share that with you. The motivation behind the Canberra based Indigenous Voice to parliament is to “close the gap” and to recognise in the Australian constitution the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants of our continent. The majority of the people who have contacted me agree that we should recognise the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants, and I haven’t had anyone say they don’t want the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians to close. The big question is “will the proposed Voice to Parliament achieve these outcomes?” Enshrining anything in our constitution is a very serious matter which is why only 8 out of the 44 referendums we have had in Australia’s history have been successful. One of these was the 1967 referendum when the Liberal Prime Minister, Harold Holt proposed that Aboriginal people be counted in the census as the same as non – Indigenous people. The was rightly carried by the Australian people with over 90% of Australians voting in favour.  The majority of people have told me that if the question was simply that we recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first people in our constitution they would vote yes, but this proposed question is not that, it is so much more and the biggest problem is, there is little detail on exactly what this Voice proposal is all about. It is an emotional plea, with little thought given to the practical outcomes that could be dangerous and have long term negative effects on our country into the future. Another concern many have raised with me is what are the ramifications practically? The Prime Minister has stated that the Voice will be involved in decision making on anything that affects or involves indigenous Australians. Well, this is everything from education to health care, to roads and everything else. Does this mean that if we want to add another lane to the Bruce Highway between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast the Voice will have to be consulted which could add extra cost and delay the project? Who knows, as there is no detail on this. Does it mean if we want to build a new hospital because the need for health care in our community is overloaded that the Voice must be consulted and this delays a new hospital being built? Again, who knows because there is no detail on this.  Finally, my view is that if the Albanese Labor government want to introduce an Indigenous Voice to parliament, they should do it through legislation. The reason I hold this view is that:  Here are some frequently asked questions I have received on the Voice. If I vote no does this make me a racist? Not at all. Should I vote how the political party I normally support votes? No. This is not a party-political question. There will be Labor voters who vote no and LNP voters who vote yes. How much does it cost to have the referendum? The estimate is around $360 million. Many people including me believe that this money could be better spent on more pressing matters such as housing. In conclusion, I want to say that although I am personally voting no to the Indigenous Voice to Parliament, I respect our democratic system and whatever the good people of Australia and Longman who I proudly represent decide on October 14, I will respect that result. The AEC have provided information on both the yes and no case and if you haven’t received that information, please contact my office and we will ensure you receive that information.

$100 million to upgrade Buchanan Road at Morayfield

A Coalition Government will invest $100 million for a major road upgrade in one of the fastest growing regions in Australia. The project will four-lane Buchanan Road and connect it all the way from the Bruce Highway through to Morayfield Road, and construct a new bridge over the Caboolture Rail Line at Sheep Station Creek in Morayfield. Member for Longman Terry Young said that once completed, the new road would help address congestion concerns regarding the future Caboolture West estate. “Many residents have contacted me and asked how people will access the Bruce Highway without creating chaos on Caboolture River Road and Buchanan Road. This project will address these concerns” Mr Young said. ‘This is a much-needed piece of infrastructure for the Longman community and this commitment from the Coalition will ensure residents can travel safely and reduce congestion on our roads.” The $200 million project will be a 50/50 funding agreement with Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC). It will be constructed in three stages, starting with the duplication of Buchanan Road to the Bruce Highway interchange, including signalisation of Graham Road intersection. Stage 2 includes the duplication of Buchannan Road from west of Graham Road to Kirkcaldy Street, while Stage 3 duplicates Buchanan Road and William Berry drive, including the construction of a new bridge over the rail line and Sheep Station Creek. It will align with the Caboolture River Road/Morayfield Road intersection and ultimately ease pressure on surrounding roads, reducing traffic and travel times while catering for future growth. This infrastructure also addresses the flooding issues currently experienced by locals when Buchanan Rd and the road under train bridge are cut off during major rain events. “We know this is estate is coming and I’m pleased we are being proactive and not reactive in ensuring that the infrastructure is in place before major problems occur,” Mr Young said. The $100 million commitment from the Coalition Government ensures MBRC can guarantee the delivery of this vital project for locals in Caboolture, Morayfield, Burpengary and surrounding suburbs. Only the Coalition Government will continue to deliver a better future for Longman as part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future. Mayor Peter Flannery said the Buchanan Road project is critically important in a booming growth area, especially before the Caboolture West development comes online. “We know 50% of locals rate congestion as their major local concern, and my concern as Mayor is that this can only get worse without significant federal funding,” he said. “So I want to thank Terry Young for not only listening to calls from Council and our community, but for going down to Canberra and forcing those decision makers to listen to us too. “This project will not only benefit the tens of thousands of residents and shoppers passing through, but also to lifestyles of people in surrounding areas who regularly find themselves in traffic gridlock. “Terry’s announcement will help us get ahead of our road infrastructure needs before the population boom arrives. “This is exactly what Council has been planning for, exactly what locals have been calling for, and exactly the amount of funding we’d requested – so to say I’m thrilled today is an understatement.” The Buchanan Road corridor currently carries 19,500 vehicles a day but one prang creates immediate gridlock on the Bruce Highway and Morayfield Road. Mayor Peter Flannery said Council has a plan that will enable it to carry 32,000 vehicles per day by 2036. “Our proposal is a four-phase program to not only four-lane Buchanan Road but also connect it all the way from the Bruce Highway through to Morayfield Road, and construct a new bridge over the Caboolture Rail Line at Sheep Station Creek in Morayfield,” he said. “This railway overpass is critical, as it means locals will no longer get stuck waiting for trains. Further, the project will significantly reduce flood impacts in an area that’s been closed for an average of almost three days every year between 2013 and 2021. “These works are estimated to cost nearly $200 million, but it’s worth it to create a high quality road link to the Bruce Highway that will benefit current Morayfield and Caboolture residents as well as provide for the future community in Caboolture West.” There are four separate sections that make up the project (Cost Estimates): Kirkcaldy St to Morayfield Rd – $149 millionDuplication of Buchanan Road and William Berry drive including the construction of a new bridge over the rail line and Sheepstation Creek Graham Rd to Kirkcaldy St – $12 millionDuplication of Buchannan Road from west of Graham Road to Kirkcaldy Street Bruce Hwy to Graham Rd – $24 millionDuplication of Buchanan Rd to Bruce Hwy interchange, including signalisation of Graham Rd intersection Weier Road – $10 millionUpgrade along Weier Road from Buchanan Road through to Market Drive, to accommodate growth at the Plantation Retirement Resort and Blue Care facility

$5 million for Bribie Bowls Club expansion

The Bribie Bowls Club will receive significant upgrades thanks to a $5 million investment from the Coalition Government, if re-elected. Member for Longman Terry Young said the funding would help the club continue to expand while providing social and economic benefits to the broader community. “I have met with the club directors on a number of occasions to hear about their expansion plans, including a 700sqm clubhouse extension as well as a new carpark and all-weather playing greens,” Mr Young said. “Over the past financial year, the club has provided $52,980 in cash and in-kind donations to local schools, community groups and sporting clubs and the expansion would also increase the amount of space available for other community groups to use. “Bowls continues to grow in popularity here in Queensland with the sport continuing to attract players of all ages, largely due to great initiatives like Bowls Qld’s Come and Try Day. “The upgrade made possible thanks to this investment of $5 million will only see that continue to grow.” The Club currently boasts four outdoor greens and a large modern clubhouse. The proposed upgrades mean the club will have covered greens, the main footprint of the club will be expanded and there will be provision for more car parking. Bribie Bowls have won best bowls club in Qld for two years running and continue to grow from strength to strength. It is a favourite in the Bribie community and is an attractive option for regional competitions. “The club hosts several large bowls carnivals which draw competitors from across the country, and overseas, and provides a nice boost to the local economy,” Mr Young said. “We’ll be able to continue hosting regional competitions right here, attracting more clubs from across Queensland to come and compete here in Longman. Overlooking Pumicestone Passage, Bribie Island Bowls Club was established in 1929 by members of the Brisbane Windsor Bowls Club is one of the largest bowls clubs in Queensland. It is home to more than 400 bowling members and some 8,000 social members. The Coalition Government continues to deliver for the residents of Longman and this announcement is part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.

$11.8 million to upgrade Old Gympie Road

The Coalition Government will commit $11.8 million to fast-track a vital road upgrade in a growing area of Longman, if re-elected. The project involves upgrading a section of Old Gympie Road in Dakabin, between Nellies Lane and Alma Road, from two to four lanes which will improve traffic flow through that area. It also includes the provision of on-road cycle lanes and ramps as well as improved pathways, landscaping and signalised pedestrian crossings. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said building local infrastructure that can cater for future growth was imperative. “Longman is one of the fastest growing areas in Queensland and that’s why the Coalition Government is investing in major infrastructure projects across the region,” Mr Joyce said. “We have already invested $530 million to upgrade the 11km stretch of the Bruce Highway from four to six lanes between Bribie Island Road and Steve Irwin Way. “There’s also $130.64 million invested for a new interchange at Deception Bay Road and $30 million to upgrade Bribie Island Road.” Federal Member for Longman, Terry Young said this project was part of a 20-year plan to improve traffic flow along Old Gympie Road between Anzac Avenue and Boundary Road. “Having driven through here countless times over the years, I’ve seen first-hand the growth in that area,” Mr Young said. “Expanding Old Gympie Road to four lanes will certainly ease congestion during peak travel times and ensure people get to their destinations faster and safer. “It will also cater to future growth from the 800ha Narangba East development corridor which is included in the South East Queensland Regional Plan 2009-2031. “The population in this area is expected to increase by up to 15,000 new residents, so ensuring they have ready-made arterial roads is a must.” This election provides a clear choice, with real consequences: a Coalition Government that understands the importance of infrastructure with strong economic management, or a weak Labor Government that won’t be able to stand up to the Greens or the unions. Only the Coalition Government will continue to deliver for Longman as part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.

Longman to be made safer with budget funding boost

Longman communities will benefit from a $50 million boost delivered by the Coalition Government in the Federal Budget to further expand round six of the highly-successful Safer Communities Fund. The funding boost means that another 60 practical community-led projects across Australia will be supported to work with high-risk young people to break the cycle of repeat offending.  It bring early intervention funding to a total of almost $120 million. Member for Longman Terry Young said he was pleased that the funding would improve community safety by helping divert local at-risk youth from a life of crime. “All local residents deserve to feel safe and all of our local young people should have the chance to achieve their full potential.” “Local projects run by Youth Development Foundation and Worklinks will provide local youth with the support they need to help keep them away from negative influences and anti-social behaviour,” Mr Young said. “The Coalition Government is backing our community-led solutions to crime – to ensure all residents can go about their daily lives free from violence, harassment and anti-social behaviour.” Former Assistant Minister for Customs, Community Safety and Multicultural Affairs Jason Wood said the additional funding was in response to overwhelming demand from the community and will support organisations with demonstrated experience in helping marginalised youth, to build resilience, strengthen community connections and job readiness skills. “These community organisations do vital work in helping get young people on the right track. We know that some young people engage in activities or have negative experiences that leave them at risk of joining gangs, committing serious crimes and disengaging from the wider community,” Former Assistant Minister Wood said. “The challenges we’ve faced over the last two years as a result of the pandemic have only added to the sense of social isolation and disconnection that some young people feel.” “This program ensures young people can get the support and assistance they need.  I thank and congratulate the local grant recipients for their ongoing work, which we are proud to support. It’s all about creating a stronger, safer community.” The funding will be delivered under the latest round of the Safer Communities Fund which has invested more than $315 million to over 800 local communities to deliver grass roots crime prevention initiatives since 2016. “The Coalition Government is serious about community safety.  We’ve provided record funding to our law enforcement and security agencies so they can crack down on organised crime and our strong border protection has meant record seizures of dangerous drugs at our borders” Mr Young said. “Importantly, we’re investing funds from the proceeds of crime back into community safety projects like this one.  Only the Coalition has a strong plan to tackle crime and keep Australians safe in these uncertain times.”

South East Queensland veterans and families will benefit from the extensive experience of not-for-profit organisation Lives Lived Well, after the group was identified as the preferred candidate to operate the Liberal-National Government’s Veteran Wellbeing Centre in the region. Lives Lived Well will now prepare a business case, in close consultation with the defence and veteran community, which will outline the exact location of the centre and further demonstrate their plans for providing critical support services for the local veteran community.          Former Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel Andrew Gee said the Government was delivering on its $5 million commitment to veterans in the region. “There are around 72,000 veterans and family members in South East Queensland and this centre will be a welcome addition to the significant supports we already provide. “We have already delivered six Veteran Wellbeing Centres around the country, with more on the way in South East Queensland and Tasmania, and I have seen firsthand the positive effects they have on local defence personnel, veterans and their families,” Former Minister Gee said. “Lives Lived Well will bring a broad perspective to supporting veterans and families, leveraging their existing strong links with the veteran community. “The group was chosen to lead the project last week, following a rigorous procurement process which saw a number of quality of applications and the genuine desire to support the wellbeing of veterans and their families across the South East Queensland region. “I want to sincerely thank all those organisations that submitted impressive expressions of interest through this process and look forward to potential opportunities to work together in the future. Member for Longman Mr Terry Young MP said the new centre will be an important additional support for the defence and veteran community in Longman and surrounding areas. “Caring for our current and ex-service personnel is a key focus of mine and I’m pleased to deliver these additional resources to support them,” Mr Young said. “Since being elected I have worked hard to secure funding for this project, including visiting The Oasis Townsville last November, to get a better understanding of how a ‘single front door’ service centre benefits local veterans. “It is also vitally important that the Veteran and current serving members have a say in how this centre will operate and I will ensure their feedback is obtained and listened to. “We have thousands of veterans and their families living in our region and I know they will welcome the progress on this new centre. “For more than 40 years, Lives Lived Well have been working with individuals and families to deliver a wide range of mental health, medical, drug and alcohol support, and they bring a unique and exciting perspective to this project. “They will leverage their existing service sites and outreach program to provide the care and advocacy that local veterans need and deserve.” Lives Lived Well Chief Executive Officer, Mitchell Giles, said his organisation would work with the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia Qld Branch (VVAA) and other ESOs to support serving members, veterans and their families. “Lives Lived Well proposes establishing a new South East Queensland Veteran Wellbeing Centre that will act as a safe space where veterans and their families can come to be connected to a range of supports. “Our Wellbeing Coordinators, located at the centre and our community-based hubs, will provide case management and assess for risks related to PTSD, trauma and suicide. The coordinators will be highly skilled with extensive experience in supporting individuals and families to navigate challenges related to physical and mental health and financial and emotional well-being. “We are grateful to the Australian Government for giving us this opportunity to support the veteran community of south-east Queensland.” The Veteran Wellbeing Centre network is delivering integrated support to veterans and their families across Australia in partnership with ex-service organisations, and state and territory Governments. These centres are available to all current and former serving Australian Defence Force members, including reservists, and their families. $3.5 MILLION FOR SPORTS COMPLEX EXPANSION IN LONGMAN

The Morton Bay Central Sports Complex will receive vital upgrades thanks to a $3.5 million investment from the Coalition Government. The complex is the home ground for the Caboolture Sports Football Club (CSFC), which has more than 900 playing members and around 2,300 supporters. Member for Longman Terry Young said he was delighted to have secured the $3.5 million in funding which would help CSFC continue to grow, while attracting regional football competitions to Longman. “Football is booming in Queensland with 37 per cent more participants in 2021, compared with the previous year,” Mr Young said. “These upgrades mean the Complex will have three new football fields to complement the existing synthetic and grass fields, as well as new lighting, car parking, irrigation and access roads. “This will ensure CSFC can continue to grow by providing more space for training and allowing matches and training to occur after dark. “The Mighty Snakes are going from strength to strength, having last year won the FQPL 2 Premiership and earning promotion to the Premier League for this year. “We’ll also be able to host regional football competitions right here, attracting clubs from across Queensland to come and compete here in Longman.” The new fields and other upgrades will be completed in partnership with Moreton Bay Regional Council. The Coalition Government continues to deliver for the residents of Longman and this announcement is part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.

New permanent headspace satellite service for Bribie Island

Young Australians living on Bribie Island will have greater access to mental health services when and where they need it most, with the Coalition Government investing $1.8 million to establish a permanent, official headspace satellite service. The new headspace Bribie Island will commence establishment in 2022-23 and operate as a satellite service under the clinical governance of its parent centre, headspace Caboolture. It will provide a permanent home for previous outreach services provided by the local Primary Health Network (PHN) to young people on Bribie Island. The headspace program improves access to support for young people aged 12 to 25 who have, or are at risk of, mild to moderate mental illness. headspace provides free or low-cost youth-friendly services in mental health, related physical health, alcohol and other drug use, and social and vocational support. This investment will provide a permanent home for previous outreach services to young people on Bribie Island. Former Minister for Health and Aged Care, Greg Hunt, said access to mental health services and support was more important for young people than ever. “One in four young Australians are affected by a mental illness every year, and we know many young people have been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Former Minister Hunt said. “Young people on Bribie Island will have ongoing access to headspace, a welcoming place for non-judgmental professional help and peer support, which provides the best possible care to young people at risk.” “Over the next four years, the Coalition is continuing to invest in headspace, bolstering capacity to reduce wait times and undertaking the single largest expansion of the network to deliver 164 services by 2025-26.” Member for Longman, Terry Young, welcomed the announcement and said “I want our young people on Bribie Island to know they are not alone on their journey.” “The Bribie Island community has been calling for this service and I am proud to be a part of a Coalition which is delivering these services where they are needed.” “headspace is recognised by young people, their families and communities as a trusted source of care and has played a vital role in ensuring young Australians are supported and continue to receive support during these challenging times.” Former Assistant Minister to the Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, David Coleman, said mental health and suicide prevention remained one of the Australian Government’s highest priorities. “The Opposition Government is committed to ensuring young Australians can get information, advice, counselling or treatment, when and where they need it,” Former Assistant Minister Coleman said. “This investment also supplements funding the Former Government provided through the $31.2 million mental health flood support package announced on 9 March 2022, and our continued focus on improving the mental health of young people to support them to reach their full potential.” Children and young people are a priority population under the recently released National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Agreement, Former Assistant Minister Coleman said. “The National Agreement is a key step in achieving landmark reforms to the Australian mental health and suicide prevention system.” This service will be commissioned by the Brisbane North Primary Health Network and builds on the Former Government’s existing significant investments in the headspace program. In 2022-23 the Coalition Government is investing a further $648.6 million in the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan, taking total investment under the Plan since 2021-22 to nearly $3 billion. Young Australians needing support can access free services through their local headspace or online through eheadspace (https://headspace.org.au/eheadspace/). Australians looking for support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic can access the Beyond Blue Coronavirus Wellbeing Support Service any time via telephone at 1800 512 348 or online at coronavirus.beyondblue.org.au. Anyone experiencing distress can seek immediate advice and support through Lifeline (13 11 14), Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800), or the Government’s digital mental health gateway, Head to Health (www.headtohealth.gov.au).

New funding for local drug and alcohol treatment services

The Coalition Government will help continue the Caboolture region’s ongoing fight against the scourge of drugs and alcohol, particularly ice. The Former Minister for Health and Aged Care, Greg Hunt, and the Member for Longman, Terry Young, today announced (April 2022) an additional investment of more than $5.4 million to continue successful drug and alcohol treatment services delivered by Lives Lived Well in Caboolture, in the Moreton Bay region. The funding forms part of the Coalition Government’s $27.9 million investment to support critical drug and alcohol treatment projects in areas of identified need across Australia. This funding boost is particularly welcomed given Caboolture has just been designated as a priority area for GP recruitment.   This initiative complements the Government’s $315 million extension of the National Ice Action Strategy over the next four years to continue critical drug and alcohol prevention, treatment and research. “The Coalition Government is committed to reducing the impacts of drug and alcohol use on Australian individuals, families and communities,” Minister Hunt said.  “Lives Lived Well continues to do great work in helping turn around the lives of people struggling with drug and alcohol use. In 2020-21 alone, the organisation helped more than 25,000 people with substance use issues across Queensland and New South Wales. “Lives Lived Well is achieving tangible results for the people it is working with, who have substantially reduced their use of alcohol and other drugs. “The Caboolture region is a case in point. On average, participants in the Lives Lived Well Caboolture programs had a 25% reduction in generalised anxiety and depression scores, and substantial reductions in alcohol and other drug use – 41% for alcohol, 48% for methamphetamine, and 22% for cannabis.” Member for Longman, Terry Young, said the funding would enable the continuation of important frontline services in Caboolture and the surrounding region. These include the Caboolture residential rehabilitation project, Withdrawal Support Service, Day Rehabilitation Service, and Demand Management Service. “Lives Lived Well has met a growing demand in the Caboolture community for help to reduce the impact of drugs and alcohol, with the number of clients almost doubling in2019-20,” Mr Young said. “Since starting in 2018, the three non-residential programs have successfully reached more than 1,700 people in the local community with drug and alcohol use issues. A further 278 people have undertaken the residential rehabilitation program, which has had an average occupancy rate of 90%.”   Through its national Drug and Alcohol Program, the Coalition Government is providing more than $870 million over four years from 1 July 2022 to reduce the impact of drug and alcohol use on individuals, families and communities.
