Stronger Connectivity for our Community

Telstra has launched live trials of satellite-to-mobile messaging, a promising new technology that allows compatible phones to send and receive text messages via satellite when outside of traditional mobile coverage.

This is a big step forward for people right here in our local community. Whether you’re a farmer working on a remote property, a tradie on a rural job site, or a family heading off on a regional road trip, staying connected matters. For too long, areas across our region have struggled with black spots and limited service. This new technology has the potential to change that.

🔹 Over 55,000 messages have already been sent during testing
🔹 Messages can include GPS coordinates and emojis
🔹 Message delivery times may vary depending on your location, device and satellite availability
🔹 Please note that this service does not support emergency texts to Triple Zero (000)

While this is still in the testing phase, it’s a strong step towards closing the connectivity gap between the city and the bush. Better communication means safer travel, stronger businesses and more peace of mind for locals and their families.

I’ll keep working to ensure our community stays informed.
